The fonds consist of 35 diaries written by Henry Mole from 1872 to 1914. These diaries chronicle the activities of Henry Mole as a pioneer, farmer and alderman. The diaries mainly document the descriptions of weather, family life, work was done on the farm, farm expenses, visitors, church involvement, and interaction with other pioneers. Many of the First Nations people were mentioned in the diaries as they were hired by Henry as farm workers. Additional documentation of Henry’s involvement in the Municipality of South Vancouver as an alderman is included in the diaries from 1894 to 1899. Some diaries include Henry’s cash account and balances. The fonds is arranged into files, with each diary comprising one file. The fonds is missing the diaries of 1873-1874, 1897, and 1909-1913.

The collection consists of two scrapbooks entitled "Mark Twain's Adhesive Scrap Book" patented 1873. Both volumes consist of newspaper cuttings from the Victoria newspapers. They are mainly concerned with political disputes and actions relating to land, finance, railways and labour. Many "Letters to the Editor" are included, also long passages quoting speeches from meetings in the House (B.C.) and other places. It is as if Robert Beaven, the collector of these clippings, were keeping a close watch on what the politicians of his day were thinking and doing, also the public as revealed by Letters to the Editor. Some of the matters discussed include The Chinese (in U.S.A., B.C. and Australia), School Costs (not Vancouver), Burrard Inlet and Queen of Vancouver Island.

The province created a separate Vancouver Assessment District in 1896; the collection includes volumes 1-23 of those assessments.

The genealogy traces members of the McPhater family from ca. 1780. The McPhaters, who emigrated to Canada, changed their name to Patton. Donald Patton owned a ships chandlery in Vancouver around 1890. There are other descendants in the Vancouver area. Ronald Reagan also is included in the genealogy.
