Dragon Parade 1958

Item is an amateur film of the 1958 Chinatown Dragon Parade. The film includes views of spectators lined up along the parade route, buildings and signs for businesses along Pender Street, and cars and groups participating in the parade. Footage includes many shots of men in a large dragon costume, the Vancouver Fire Department Band, and the Chinese Freemasons and Chinese Community School floats.

Fashion parades, February 1960 and undated slides

File consists of twelve photographs of a February 1960 fashion parade in Chinatown attended by Mayor A.T. Alsbury and Miss Vancouver Chinatown 1960 Donna Yee, as well as two photographs of a parade in Chinatown, likely taken in 1960.

Lorimer, notes and correspondence before Yee's involvement

File consists of correspondence relating to the writing and publication on a book of stories about Chinese-Canadian children living in Vancouver. The file also includes drafts of those stories, and a manuscript of a satirical story titled "Oh! Canada".

Item is an amateur film of the 1960 Miss Chinatown competition. Film includes footage of the evening gown, Chinese dress, public speaking and talent competitions, the selection of pageant finalists, and the crowning of the winner.

The fonds consists of Paul Yee’s personal correspondence and records of academic achievement, writing and research files, subject files, photographs, and sound recordings, as well as publications and ephemera that he collected. These records relate to Yee's activities as a writer, historian, activist, and archivist in Vancouver and Toronto.

In addition, the fonds includes photographs, correspondence, and other records of some of Yee’s immediate family members, including his Aunt Lillian and Uncle Foon Wong, and their close friends. The fonds also contains textual records, publications, ephemera, and photographs relating to the activities of the Chinese Cultural Centre in Vancouver and the Pender Guy Radio Co-operative, as well records relating to the functions of fraternal associations such as the Wong Kong Har Tong and Hoy Yin Association in Vancouver, and the Duncan, B.C., Branch of the Chinese Nationalist League (Kuo Min Tang).

Photograph album : Parade of Oriental Fashions, 18th Convention of the Canadian Food Processors Association and Year of the Serpent banquet

Item is an album containing photographs of the Parade of Oriental Fashions event at the 18th convention of the Canadian Food Processors Association as well as a program for the convention. The parade took place on January 22, 1965 in the Mai Tai Room of the Bayshore Inn. Photographs show female models wearing Asian dress, a fashion show and attendees.

The album also includes photographs of the Year of the Serpent Chinese New Year Festival Banquet held at the W.K. Gardens on February 26, 1965. The banquet was held in conjunction with the Spring Carnival Committee, and was sponsored by the Junior Chamber of Commerce, the Vancouver Visitors Bureau and the Chinese community. Included are photographs of various Vancouver pageant queens, Miss San Francisco Chinatown, Miss Chinatown USA first princess, and the crowning of a young woman with a serpent headdress and crown.

Notes at the back of the album list orders received for copies and provide some identification of those individuals appearing in the photographs.

Series consists of photographs of the Yip Sang family and friends and their activities, as well as some photographs collected by the family. Includes photographs of the Wing Sang Building, Canton Alley, the Chinese Student's Athletic Association soccer team, the Chinese Empire Reform Association, the Kuo Min Tang [Kuomintang] Chinese Nationalist League of Canada, and the opening of the Toishan (Toi Shan) District High School in Kwon Tung (Guangdong) Province, China. Photographs also relate to family events, such as weddings, Yip Sang's birthday celebrations, and Yip Sang's funeral.
