Collector/curator's description reads: “Circa 1949, Vancouver. Photo of William (Bill) George Corobotiuc. Born in Vancouver July 20, 1943 and died November 28, 2006. Came from a Croatian family. He worked at Workers Compensation Board and was known for his love of quotes, using them every opportunity he could. ‘Stop and smell the roses.’ ‘You get what you pay for.’ ‘You snooze, you lose.’ He was also a devoted vinyl record collector and amassed thousands of record albums over the years, mostly rock n' roll.”

He was a businessman who owned Vancouver Packaging, and then in the 1950s owned Krispee Potato Chips. In the mid-1950s he married Rosemary Louie. The family changed their name from Chun to Lowe.”

Collector/curator’s description reads: “April 20, 1948, Vancouver. Photo from the wedding of Peter Mathew Seifert (1924-2008) and Frances Mari Lemmerich (1920-2016). Both were of German descent and originally from Saskatchewan. Peter served in WWII and after being discharged in 1946, he became an accountant. It was while working as a bookkeeper at a cannery camp at Bones Bay, B.C. that he met Frances. They married in the spring of 1948 and continued to work at season canneries around the province for several more years.”

Collector/curator’s description reads: “1948, Vancouver. Portrait of Mary Chan who was best known as a community activist in Vancouver's Chinatown and surrounding neigbhourhoods. She and her husband Walter founded SPOTA: the Strathcona Property Owners and Tenants Association. Along with her daughter Shirley, the Chan family organized the neighbourhood and stopped demolition and the building of a freeway through Vancouver's Chinatown.”

Item is a home movie which pictures Lions Gate Bridge from the Stanley Park side, the view from Coal Harbour, and outdoor skating and tennis in Lost Lagoon and/or Beaver Lake in the wintertime. The second half features immigrants disembarking at Vancouver airport, exiting United Air Lines' customs and immigrations and taking photographs. Lew Parry's Steet Metal Worker's Local 280 float sculpture is briefly filmed.

Collector/curator’s description reads: “February 7, 1947, Vancouver. Wedding photo of William Paul Streifel (1918-1996) to Marie Eva Richter (1919-2006). William was born in Fox Valley, Saskatchewan. Marie was born in Prelate, Saskatchewan. Married in February 1947, William and Eva were both from Saskatchewan and both were of German descent. They had come to Vancouver together, got married and saved every penny they had. (They were, however, willing to spend a little extra to have their wedding photo painted.) Not long after this picture was taken the couple paid $400 for a plot of land on East 55th Avenue in Vancouver. There they built a little stucco bungalow and raised three children. They lived in that humble, little house until they both passed away.”

Irma lived in Strathcona and came from an Italian-Canadian family. She went on to marry Ramon Benedetti. Together they owned and operated Benny's Market on Union Street and Princess in Vancouver.”

Collector/curator's description reads: “1947, Vancouver. Full-length photo of child Howard Grant. Howard was born and raised in the Musqueam community. His mother was a member of the Musqueam Indian Band while his father was an early Chinese immigrant. Because Howard was not forced to attend Indian residential school due to his Chinese heritage, he had the opportunity to immerse himself in Musqueam teachings from the elders among whom he grew up. However, his Chinese roots were never far away. This photo, taken in Chinatown in 1947 where his siblings spent part of their childhood, symbolizes the dual world that Howard was exposed to as a child.”

She was 20 at the time and working at the library and Main and Hastings. Her grandfathers had come in the 1800s to work on the railroad, then returned to Italy. Yucho was [so] enamoured with this photo that he displayed it in the studio's front window for about seven years.”
