[Spencer family at Vancouver International Airport]

Item is an amateur film documenting the Spencer family gathered at Vancouver International Airport as Colonel Victor Spencer departs. Film documents Col. Victor Spencer boarding an airliner, as well as Gertrude and Elizabeth Ann Spencer, and Isabell Winch in front of the Administration Building. The film also shows Elizabeth Ann at Aberthau, and John Fife and Elizabeth Ann playing in the snow.

The16mm release print that the digital child was made from, was struck from the internegative/original negatives, and the optical sound track; it is closest thing to an original in the donation for this production. It is the only record of this movie on film with a soundtrack.

Film is a theatrical short produced for the 20th Anniversary of the Canadian Forces Air Demonstration Squadron, "The Snowbirds." This version has french narration, french credits, and french subtitles.
Yaletown Productions obtained distribution for the film across Canada; it played in theatres as a short before the Demi Moore feature film "Mortal Thoughts" (1991).

The documentary begins by following the eight men trying out for the four spaces in the 1990 Snowbirds team, then discussing the history of aviation in Canada and the Canadian military, the majority of the film focuses on the training of the Snowbirds team and the outreach and shows they perform. Team members are filmed getting ready to board the plane, polishing their boots, folding a flag, checking their own and each others equipment, practicing their aerial routine on the ground, footage also includes a local news camera women, airshow crowds, the Sky hawks ground team, the Sky hawks performance, the airshow announcer can be heard narrating the show as the camera captures the show and the crowd. Item is raw footage shot for a one hour television network documentary featuring Canada's military parachute team, the Sky hawks. Primarily the aerial footage (shot by a fellow sky-diver) captures the sky diving and parachuting performances of the Sky hawks. Some of the aerial footage was shot at Royal Rhodes Military College. Other locations have not been identifed. Additional footage is included that was shot on the ground of a Sky hawks team breifing with Pierre (shot from several angles), and the men getting dressed for a show and checking each others' parachutes and equipment, airplanes taxing, the Sky hawks team practicing thier show on the ground 'dirt dive,' the men chatting near the airplane, and the Sky hawks team entering the airplane. Baden Baden [Germany - raw footage]

Item is raw camera footage shot for "Return of the Cold Warriors" a half hour television documentary about the history and closing of the last Canadian Military base in Germany. Footage shows jets landing, flying, taxiing and taking off. Footage includes shots of other buildings and air hangars. Also buildings and traffic at night, Footage was transferred from film to video before transfer to the archives; sprocket holes can be seen at times. At times there is a ring of shadow around the outer rim of the frame.
