367 days after this picture was taken the "Empress of Japan" passed under the Lions Gate Bridge steel construction having been completed.

4:50 a.m. Five minutes later the four catwalk cables were secured on North Shore. "Fispa" is near scow that is hauling cables across.

5:23 a.m. Three of the eight-ton cables for catwalks have been raised 325 feet above tide mark. Distance between piers is 1550 feet.

At 6:00 a.m. the catwalk cables (from one tower only) were secured. Exactly 6 months later the last of the 8 catwalk cables was taken down.

At this time the steel work of the South tower was within two sections of top. Picture shows how "creeper" operates, rising with each section.

Due to the tide, the scow carrying this first road section made two attempts before its position was just right for releasing its heavy load of steel.

One of the "cellars" cut out of solid blue clay will be walled with concrete for cable anchorages on South Shore. Note steel reinforced rods.

Only the top steel-work bwetween the two pillars remains to be finished. Roadbed will be laid over the flat cross-bar.
