Item is camera original raw footage for "Curse of the Lost Gold Mine." Includes several takes of Donnelly Rhodes as the Storyteller, in a log cabin setting, smoking a pipe and doing the background and set-up scene for the docudrama. There are also several takes of further script about the mine and Slumach, and other parts of the legend. These scenes are also set in the log cabin by the fireplace. 1858-1958 Centenary Vancouver BC

Item is an amateur film documenting early and present-day Vancouver. This film contains footage of the Second Narrows Highway Bridge collapse, construction of the Deas Island Tunnel and Woodward's Oakridge Shopping Centre, as well as footage of Centennial Beach Park, Fort Langley Park, Queen Elizabeth Arboretum and the Bowladrome in Kerrisdale. The exterior and interior of a Vancouver home, including footage of children at play and a Christmas celebration, are also documented. There are also images of still photographs from the early 1900s which document sunbathers at a beach, loggers at work and the Stanley Park Hollow Tree. A Pioneer Citizen certificate bearing the name Max Wiehand is also shown.

1932 Summer Olympics, Los Angeles, California

Item is an amateur film consisting of footage of the 1932 summer Olympics in Los Angeles, California. Competitions filmed include swimming, rowing and equestrian jumping. Also included is footage of the Olympic flame and the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. Film was mistakenly identified on reel as footage of the 1936 Olympics.

1985 garden party

Item consists of a videocassette which contains raw amateur footage of the Brock House Society annual Garden Faire on July 6, 1985. The Tudor-themed faire was held at on the grounds of Brock House; footage includes shots of the house from many sides, as well as views over Jericho Beach and English Bay. The footage is thematically divided into roughly five parts: faire setup on July 5; the opening ceremonies with faire chairman Dudley Darling as the master of ceremonies introducing Dr. George Halpern who officially opens the faire, dancing to ragtime music (performed by Parks Board Band, conducted by Ray Johnson); executive coordinator Irene Ovenden talking to volunteers and vendors about the faire; musical performances, including the Brock House Choir, conducted by Elva Fitzpatrick Walters, the Brock House Orchestra, conducted by Ron Parkinson, and the Brock House Big Band, conducted by Paul Jagger; and raffle draws for various prizes, and Darling gives a few closing words after the drawings. Throughout the footage the cameraman often pans the camera out over the guests or lingers on subjects of interest such as children or items for sale by the vendors.

1991 - Year of the sheep (ram), Chinese New Year - Parade, Vancouver, B.C.

Item is an amateur home movie of the 1991 Chinese New Year’s parade in Vancouver. It includes footage of the parade from East Pender Street outside the Chinese Cultural Centre and from Keefer Street just outside the entrance to the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Gardens. Also included is footage of vendors and tables inside the Chinese Cultural Centre, scenes of families inside the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Gardens, primarily inside the main pavilion, a view of the water and railings, and through the moon doorway.

The parade footage contains a variety of traditional Chinese elements, such as lion dancers, Chinese dragons, firecrackers, flags, dancing, music, and costumes. Some of the identifiable groups in the parade are: Cheerleaders from Steveston Secondary School, Children from J. W. Sexsmith Elementary School, Dancers from Strathcona Chinese Dance Co., the Freddy Fudd[pucker] band, Boy Scouts and Girl Guides of Canada, St. John’s Ambulance Cadets, Tibet Lama Kung-Fu, and the Western Canada Chinese Martial Arts Association.

1st Narrows Bridge

Item is a color film which details the steps involved in constructing the Lions Gate Bridge (First Narrows Bridge) across the First Narrows of the Burrard Inlet (Vancouver, B.C.) in 1937 and 1938. The film, which appears to be professionally produced, captures the entire construction and assembly process, including the cutting of a road through Stanley Park, preparation of cofferdams and caissons, foundation pouring, erection of the main towers, hoisting and attaching cables, insertion of stiffening trusses, bridge surface pouring, application of protective paint, and other finishing touches, including the installation of sculptor Charles Marega's lions. The film also captures shots of key contributors A.J.T. Taylor and John Anderson, as well as the first cars to cross the span from end to end.

Item part is a variety of recorded programs on a videocassette. The first program, 50/up, contains a segment interviewing individuals about the difficulties in coming out as gay or lesbian when around 50 years of age. Item is a film documenting beet seed sowing equipment as six seeds per meter are planted into the soil. The film shows a monozentra precision drill sowing a naked chalked seed, followed by a palm precision drill sowing a naked chalked seed, then a monozentra precision drill sowing a pelleted seed and finally a palm precision drill sowing a pelleted seed. Film shows the process in both slow motion and at standard speed.

A city celebrates

Item consists of a motion picture film depicting highlights of the Military Searchlight Tattoo at Empire Stadium as a part of the Vancouver International Festival marking the city's 75th anniversary. The film also includes scenes of the SS Canberra entering the harbour, aerial views of the city, members of the New York Ballet Company playing on the beach, soldiers on a trampoline, and scenes of fishing in a river.

The tattoo itself includes bugle calls, military marching bands from around Canada and the UK, pipe bands, Scottish dancing, and a Royal Air Force gymnastic exhibition. The finale of the tattoo involved all 1066 performers on the field of Empire Stadium.

A Classical Chinese Garden

Item is a promotional film developed to help raise awareness and support for the development of the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Garden, which had not yet been built. The narration throughout is illustrated with relevant still imagery, which is a combination of photography of Chinese gardens, classical Chinese artwork, and images related to the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen garden project, such as architectural plans and photos of the artisans. The narration discusses the history of the garden in China, beginning with the great gardens of the emperors, and distinguishing them from Japanese or English gardens. The history of the Suzhou scholar’s garden is explored, with an emphasis on the Garden of the Master of the Fishing Nets. It also discusses the planning and design of the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen garden, and the architects and artisans who will build it, with a focus on the various design features of a Chinese garden, including Taoist and landscape painting influences, and the various benefits and enjoyments a garden delivers. The film concludes with a call for membership and donations to the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Garden society, and discusses the benefits of membership.

Film is a copy of an Al Razutis experimental student film. 'Aeon' is a psychedelic mix of live footage, film manipulation and animation set to similarly psychedelic music and sounds. Recognisable themes include eyes, trees, water, fire, mountains, other images from nature and people. Recurring themes include a person chopping with an ax and a gull in flight. With Jurgen Hesse. Aerospace Industry in BC [British Columbia]

Item is a short video highlighting business opportunities in British Columbia. It was created from the "Economic Development" (1992) 16mm, colour, raw footage (90 minutes); footage of the electronic and aerospace industry around Vancouver. From this and other footage from Yaletown Productions, two programs were edited for the Province of British Columbia, Ministry of Economic Development, Small Business and Trade. This short focuses on the aerospace industry in BC. Narration of this film compares the Snowbirds, Canada's military airshow team and goes on to explain the advantages of living and working in BC.

Bailing Out documents an airplane pilot jumping out of a plane, pulling his parachute open, and landing in a field. Scaling Mt. Rainier documents people tobogganing, snowshoeing, dog sledding and mountain climbing at a lodge on Mt. Rainier. Yosemite in Winter documents people snowshoeing, skiing, snowball fighting, and skating on Mirror Lake.
