George Maddams discusses growing up in Vancouver; father taking up property at False Creek, 1880s, and speculating in in land, 1908; family interest in music; played clarinet and later saxophone; attended Mount Pleasant School, 1903, and Alexandra School, 1908; joined musicians union, 1910; played in Vancouver theatres and on CNR ships sailing up the coast to Alaska and across the Pacific. Details of his career playing on the ships "Prince Rupert", "Southern Cross", "Princess Louise" and "Empress of Canada" during the years 1926-1939.
