Park Board payroll files

Series consists primarily of payroll records relating to unemployed relief work projects sponsored by the Park Board during the Depression. There are listings of the men hired and wages paid, as well as budget figures for various projects.

Park Board central registry files

Series consists of records created by several divisions of the Park Board and maintained by the Board's central registry. Series contains various committee records, including minutes; administrative and financial records; files relating to specific parks (Operational location files series); and subject files pertaining to property acquisition and development, recreational facilities, beaches and marinas, and sports and other recreational programs. Arranged into four subseries: Housekeeping subject files, Operational location files, Operational subject files and Reports to the Board of Parks and Recreation files.

Series consists of materials published by organizations external to the Association and includes magazines, research reports by federal and provincial departments of agriculture, and newsletters and journals of other associations.

University of British Columbia prize

Series consists of correspondence relating to a price the club awarded annually to a student in U.B.C.'s Faculty of Medicine whose graduating thesis concerned the study and treatment of cerebral palsy. Arranged in no apparent order.

Special designations

Various groups and associations wishing to send their own aid to Nicaragua would apply to Tools for Peace for space on the Nicaragua-bound vessels chartered by Tools for Peace. These organizations were called "Special Designations". The records in this series indicate sources of material aid to Nicaragua, and the specific nature of the aid. These records were originally contained in four binders, one binder per year.

Yachting Section records

Series consists of the minutes of executive meetings (1980-1984), correspondence (1982-1983), and photographs (1982-1985) of the Vancouver Rowing Club Yachting Section (formerly known as the Burrard Yacht Club).

Jaycette records

Series consists of records of the Jaycette executive and committees in support of the Vancouver Junior Chamber of Commerce, and in pursuit of its own activities in the community and betterment of its members. The series includes minutes of executive meetings, annual reports, membership lists, correspondence, announcements,and policy manuals. Standing committees within the Jaycettes developed and executed projects which are described in project proposals and reports, activity reports and descriptions of committees. Special project files describe courses, social events, and contest albums.

John Schreiner records re: The Refiners

Series consists of records gathered and notes created by John Schreiner in the course of researching and writing a book on the history of BC Sugar entitled: The Refiners: A century of BC Sugar.

Series includes early drafts, outlines, and edits of the book chapter by chapter, notes used to write the chapters. The series also includes other research materials collected for potential use in the book, including photographs, and a photograph album.

Series consists of ephemeral materials collected by the Vancouver Merchants' Exchange which includes correspondence with Neville Chamberlain and a scrapbook of maritime photographs featuring various vessels.

Public Relations and Information and Advertising records

The series consists of records created and received by the Public Relations and Information and Advertising Departments of the P.N.E. Records include subject files, press releases, correspondence, reports, speeches, schedules, newsletters, and other records. Records relate to: general fair publicity, the 1980 Winter Olympics Committee, special events held on P.N.E. grounds, a proposed P.N.E. multiplex building, and other issues.
Series contains two subseries: 1) Public Relations Department records; and 2) Information and Advertising Department records.

Fine art

This series contains photogravures, solar prints, charcoals, and pencil drawings of the Hendrys and others. These pieces were removed and stored separately because of their non-photographic nature, their separate relevance to Vancouver, and their different physical needs.


Series consists of photographs of Ladner's forbears, Ladner as a child, a young man and in his later years. Shots include him at work and play as well as being presented awards at UBC. Other images include signed portraits of vaious politicians.


Series consists of photographs of office personnel, interior of the office, shots of completed jobs, mainly in the Vancouver and Lower Mainland, and a sampling of presentation slides.


Series consists of records documenting the membership of the Vancouver Poetry Society over the majority of its existence. The records include membership lists showing regular, corresponding and life members (1922-1972); reports of the social convenor (1944-1957); membership roll and dues paid, including the names and addresses of members (1928-1951); a sign-in book for meetings of the Society indicating which members were in attendance, and their guests (1936-1956).

Ray Michal professional records

Series consists of records documenting Ray Michal's professional life not associated with City Stage Theatre Centre. The series includes records which document Michal's freelance directing career before and after City Stage, and touring "Tonight... Piaf" after the wind-up of City Stage in early 1987.

Records in the series include correspondence, contracts, press clippings, a file of obituary notices collected by Michal's family after his death, and flyers for the benefit performance for the Ray Michal Fund.

The series includes some press clippings related to City Stage, as they were filed with pre- and post-City Stage records.

Series consists of addresses delivered before the Club, a constitution and roll of members (1907), reports of annual conferences of the Assocation of Canadian Clubs, and other items.

First Narrows Bridge

Series consists of records relating to the initial ideas, planning, development, and completion of Vancouver's major construction project of 1937-1938, the First Narrows Bridge (or, Lions' Gate Bridge). Includes news clippings; correspondence of West Vancouver's city clerk, late 1920s; narrative notes and annotations of J.S. Matthews; and photographs by David Loughan. Arrangement is chronological.


Series consists of photographs documenting activities of the Rotary Club of Vancouver. Included are photographs of conferences and conventions, banquets and balls, various fundraising causes, guest speakers and visiting dignitaries. Also included are three photograph albums; the Health Clinic album, the International House Opening album and the W. C. Shelly Collection.

Forest Hydrology research files

Series consists of newspaper articles, Greater Vancouver Regional District (GVRD) records and reports, Ministry of Forest reports, and research theses related to the Greater Vancouver watersheds Hydrology study. Hydrology studies of other places, for reference purpose, are included in the series as well.

Osborne J. Pierce architectural drawings and plans

Series consists of original Osborne J. Pierce architectural drawings and plans of houses and other types of buildings and monuments, with related notes, and a published photograph of a residence designed by Osborne J. Pierce. Included also is an unrelated essay by Pierce relating to statistics.

Visitors' books

Series consists of Kiwanis Club of Vancouver registers of visitors to weekly Kiwanis Club luncheons. Attached to the register pages are program announcement letters, The Bugle, and newsclippings. Arranged chronologically.

Program Department - group records

Series consists mainly of observation reports on the activities conducted by various clubs and groups of Alexandra Neighbourhood House. The reports were prepared by group leaders which contain program narratives, analyses on group organization and development ; and analyses on individual member's performance and behaviour. Series also includes minutes, members' personal information and membership lists.

Prompt scripts

This series consists of scripts that went into workshop or full production. The scripts contain changes and directors' notations regarding instructions to actors and technicians. They are arranged alphabetically by the name of the playwright or the title of the production series.


Series consists of personal and family photographs relating to the personal and academic life of Lett. Series also contains photographs covering Lett's professional life including Lett's military services during the two World Wars, participation in Canadian Mission to Japan in 1947, and the Canadian participation in the International Commission for Supervision and Control in Vietnam in 1955.

Series consists of minutes of the Capilano Canyon Park Association of the Vancouver Board of Trade and reflect the Association's activities surrounding the formulation of a permanent plan for the property, the development of trails, etc.
