Series consists of subject files selected for long-term evidential and informational value containing correspondence, reports, clippings, pamphlets, etc., which document business liaison, advisory, and information services activities, periodic administrative support services to the Mayor, economic trade mission advisory and support, the visits of officials from sister cities and Hong Kong, the activities of the Downtown Eastside Economic Development Society, the revitalization of Victory Square, Expo 86, the Asia Pacific Initiative, and YVR and Port of Vancouver expansion. Includes sequences of photographs that show panoramic views of the Victory Square/Downtown Eastside area before revitalization.

Finance and accounting records

Series consists of records documenting day-to-day accounting and year-end summaries of revenue, expense, and capital transactions; and regular analysis and reporting of the Company's financial position. The series also documents transactions relating to the Company's subsidiaries.

The records include draft, final and audited financial statements; a wide variety of accounting ledgers, such as General Ledgers, Cash Ledgers and Subsidiary Ledgers; ledgers relating to the costs of employee benefits; and various Journals. The series includes both public and private ledgers.


Series consists of two photograph albums of canning and fishing operations of the Anglo-British Columbia Packing Co. Ltd., Fraser River fisheries, Anacortes, Washington and Ketchikan, Alaska fisheries.

Point Grey by-laws

Series consists of original signed copies of by-laws governing the Corporation of Point Grey which were maintained by the Clerk to the Municipal Council. Also included is an index to the by-laws. Arranged in chronological order.

Photographs and sketches

Series consists of photographs primarily showing camp outings, 1926-1983, from around British Columbia as well as Alberta and the United States. Many trips were taken to the same sites or parks year after year, such as Garibaldi Provincial Park. Photographs of camping trips include views of group portraits, campsites, trekking, landscapes, and plant and animal life observed on trips. City Council minutes

Series consists of the minutes of City Council meetings, the official record of the discussion and decision-making of the governing body of the City of Vancouver. Series is complete from incorporation in April 1886. The minutes are arranged chronologically by meeting and organized into bound volumes numbered 1 through 508. Series also includes supporting documents included as attached reports to the associated Council meetings, or in separate files in series 20 (Subject files) and series 62 (Operational subject files).

Genealogy of J.S. Matthews

Series consists of records relating to the family history and biographical details of J.S. Matthews. Includes genealogical information written and compiled by Matthews, photographs, correspondence, and news clippings. Series also includes a file of correspondence created and received by M.I. Beveridge, assistant city archivist, at the time of Matthews' death.

Personal papers and newspaper articles

Series consists of files containing articles written by Dr. Newman during his directorship of the Vancouver Aquarium, travel notebooks and journals, and newspaper clippings.


Series consists of three scrapbooks, one photo album and various artifacts relating to conferences collected throughout Dr. Newman's career.

Publications and Brock House history

The Society provides members with publications informing them of activities and programs. Newsletters are published, as quarterly issues and the Gallimaufry is a monthly paper. Posters and notices were put on bulletin boards to announce events, changes to schedules, or to advertise things. The Series also documents former residents of Brock House, in particular members of the Brock family.

Series consists of the Gallimaufry, newsletters, bulletin board notices, newspaper clippings, Reginald W. Brock s correspondence with the Japanese Society of Vancouver, and correspondence with members of the Brock family.

Photographs and pieces of art work

Series consists of photograph albums documenting the "Birthday of the Century" celebrating the 100th Birthday of Evelyn Lett. The photograph albums also document Brock House, social events, and the Brock family. There are also loose photographs of the B.C. Senior Award presentation dinner, and social events such as the Summer Fair. A painting and drawing of Brock House is also included.

General correspondence

Series documents incoming and outgoing correspondence. The arrangement for the most part is chronological. There is an instance of subject-based correspondence, such as thank you letters to the Society.

Fundraising records

Members have organized the Christmas Bazaar, Christmas Fair, Winter Fair and Winter Festival, New-To-You Boutique, and Garden Fair (also known as the Summer Fair or Garden Party). The Society has also made a concerted effort, to get grants from corporations, private donors, Foundations, and the B.C. Provincial government.

Series consists of grant brochures, correspondence, reports, press releases, memorandums, permits and licenses, floor plans, raffle tickets, volunteer and convenor directories, forms, meeting minutes, notes, receipts and invoices.

Brock minutes and records of the committees

Series documents the founding of Brock House Society, the creation of bylaws and a Constitution. The Series also documents the operational and administrative functions of the Policy Committee, Programme Committee, Personnel Committee, Library and Archives Committee, Membership Committee, Long Term Planning Committee, House Committee, Social Committee, Care and Conservation, Community Outreach, Finance, House, Music, Program-Instructional, Program-Recreational, Property Management, Special Events, Volunteer Resources, and Food Services. The Annual General Meeting is also included in the Series.

Series consists of meeting minutes, correspondence, agendas, annual reports from committees, directories, memorandums, by-laws, resolutions for amendments, audited and unaudited financial records, policies and procedural guidelines for the internal operation of the Society, a constitution, and certificates.

Private papers

Series consists of personal correspondence, certificates and diplomas, school records, business papers, scrapbooks, and records related to involvements in community organizations including the Kitsilano Chamber of Commerce, Vancouver Communities' Council, and the Burrard Lions Club.


Series contains ca. 7500 photographs covering the following subjects: theatre, comedy, performance arts, dance, writers, artists, musicians, portraits, politicians, female impersonation, Stonewall Festival, HIV/AIDS, the Vancouver AIDS Memorial, political activism, Gay Games III, nightclubs, Vancouver Lesbian Connection, Vancouver Gay and Lesbian Community Centre, Vancouver Prime Timers, youth groups, leather community, First Nations, sports, Hiking Club, businesses, LGBTQ2+ community organizations, Vancouver Pride Festival and Victoria Pride Festival.


Series consists of ship photographs documenting all types of maritime traffic in and out of Vancouver over a 56 year period. Represented are elegant liners and spit-polished war ships to rusted tramp steamers. The photographs in this series not only show the variety of ships visiting the port, but also record how the nature of shipping and marine architecture have evolved.

Police Department : Board and member photographs

Series consists of photographs of members of the Vancouver Police Department and the Board of Police Commissioners as well as various scenes of police activity. Portraits of police employees include police officers, inspectors, police chiefs, police matrons and other departmental roles as well as group portraits of units, squads and police sports teams. Photographs of police equipment are also found in this series such as police boats, different types of motor vehicles, fingerprinting tools and radios. Photographs demonstrating police work include traffic safety education, vehicle inspection, call staff, patrols and other events.

Series consists of photographs taken of individuals arrested by the Vancouver Police Department, showing a "mugshot" view of front and side portraits of individuals. Persons arrested include men, women, and children primarily related to charges of petty theft, drug use or possession, and prostitution. The majority of photographs in this file date from 1897 to 1912, and have been digitized to view online. The remaining 38 photographs in this file, created ca.1920-1930's, are restricted and have not been described at the item level.


Series consist of family photos. Some identification has been indicated.
