File consists of drawings depicting landscape and hard landscaping design of the northern portion of the UBC Botanical Gardens, located on the east, south and west sides of Thunderbird Stadium. The file does not include drawings of the gardens west of South-west Marine Drive. The file also includes reference copies of the design of a public service, education and greenhouse building in the north-west portion of the gardens.
The drawings depict survey plans of existing conditions, overall gardens concept designs, general plans of designs, dimension plans, grading plans, planting plans, plant lists, construction details for hard landscaping, and plans of site mechanical and electrical services.
The project was divided into six phases, most of which are documented in the file:
Phase 1, also sometimes referred to as "initial stage": site clearance, site grading, installation of site services, initial concept designs for the overall site and initial design of the alpine gardens and the proposed public service, education and greenhouse buildings: drawings 1993-060.0477 to .0537
Phase 2: planning for supply and stockpiling of rockery rocks and site preparation for alpine garden: these drawings appear to be included in Phase 3 drawings
Phase 3: detailed design and execution of the alpine gardens at the south-west perimeter of Thunderbird Stadium, and initial site preparation for Phases 4 and 5: 1993-060.0538 to .0551
Phase 4: Chain link perimeter fence around the BC Native Plant Garden to the east of Thunderbird Stadium and initial garden design: 1993-060.0552 to .0559
Phase 5: Garden entry area, arbour garden, contemporary garden and physick garden: 1993-060.0560 to .0577
Phase 6: Evolutionary garden, Economic garden, and Canadian Native Plant garden, tea house and underpass to rhododendron gardens to the west of Marine Drive: 1993-060.0578 to .0602
