Series consists of records documenting executive activity of BC Sugar, including activities of the President and Secretary. A portion of the records contained in the series do not appear to document the activities of the President's Office itself, but may have been retained in the President's Office due to the sensitive nature of the records. A portion of the records are For Information copies sent for the President's files.
The records in the series document interactions with shareholders, including payment of dividends and transfers of share ownership; deliberations of the Board of BC Sugar, the Company's response to Combines Investigation Act inquiries and subsequent litigation; international sugar trading; joint ventures; and acquiring insurance coverage for the plant and properties of BC Sugar and its subsidiaries. Records of these activities may be found within their respective subseries.
The series also includes records relating to the 1917 strike by BC Sugar workers, the company's response to unionization efforts and collective bargaining, liaison with external organizations such as the Sugar Association and competitor firms, the acquisition of subsidiary companies, and operational and financial reporting to head office by subsidiary companies.
The series is made up of correspondence; financial, operational and other reports; notes and memoranda; court documents; articles of incorporation; employee name and classification lists; production statistics; assessment and appraisal reports; and clippings scrapbooks regarding BC Sugar and the sugar industry in general.
