B.C. / Expo 86 - aerials #2

This item consists of raw footage featuring B.C./Expo 86 aerials; shot in 35mm and transferred to one inch tape. Original negative no longer exists and only video footage survives. Some of this material was used in Yaletown Production's video postcard series. There are several shots of the B.C. Pavillion, now the Telus World of Science; including nighttime shots of the B.C. Pavillion, the Expo grounds and the city. Some scenes have been sped up.

Flight of the sky hawks [broadcast version]

Item is a one hour television network documentary featuring Canada's military parachute team, the Sky Hawks, "Flight of the sky hawks: 20th anniversary celebration.;" produced in cooperation with the Department of National Defence Canada. Narrated by Donnelly Rhodes; written by Richard Tomkies; produced and directed by Michael Collier; editor Jane Morrison; and music Bruce Ruddell. The documentary follows the Sky hawks team through selection and training, their missions and goals and performances and other outreach activities the team performs as part of being a Sky hawk. From original camera source tapes. Includes blackouts for commercials.

Includes classroom planning footage, team members getting their skydiving costumes on, checking each others parachute equipment, an interview with Peirre regarding the Sky hawks six week training camp in Paris CA each year, the Sky hawks getting on an airplane, preparing the landing site, footage from the ground of the Sky hawks performing and landing.

Item is raw footage shot for a one hour television network documentary featuring Canada's Military parachute team, the Sky hawks. Footage includes shots of the Sky hawks team traveling by air, a plane taking off and retracting landing gear (shot from inside the airplane), men playing cards/gambling on the airplane, Royal Rhodes Military College campus, the audience at Royal Rhodes, ribbons being dropped from the airplane to aid in testing the winds at levels higher than the ground, Sky hawks ground crew, the Sky hawks jumping while commentary is offered on the ground about the show and jumpers, and applause when the jumpers land.

Item is raw footage shot for a one hour television network documentary featuring Canada's Military parachute team, the Sky hawks. This tape includes footage, taken from the ground, of the Sky hawks performing at Royal Rhodes Military college in Victoria BC on a windy day; includes footage of the crowd. The tape continues with the Sky hawks at an air show where they interact with the crowd and children.

Sky hawks [tape # 20]

Item is raw footage shot for a one hour television network documentary featuring Canada's Military parachute team, the Sky hawks. Includes footage of a city skyline [Spokane, WA?], and the Sky hawk team members at an air show in the USA, an American flag is included in their show [Fairchild Air Force Base, Spokane, WA?]. Team members are filmed getting ready to board the plane, polishing their boots, folding a flag, checking their own and each others equipment, practicing their aerial routine on the ground, footage also includes a local news camera women, airshow crowds, the Sky hawks ground team, the Sky hawks performance, the airshow announcer can be heard narrating the show as the camera captures the show and the crowd. Scenes of mountain views and glaciers, ice formations, camping scenes with pack animals [yaks] near the tents in the snow, and the yaks being fed hay, 'The Habitat: design shelter systems' being set up, a dog, one man bathing at the campsite, ice formations, lounging at the campsite, skiing, loaded pack animals, people unloading the burdens from the pack animals, an antenna being assembled and erected, people hiking in 'Climb for hope' t-shirts, prayer flags, people playing cards, shovelling snow, and an avalanche.

Item is "Everest - Climb for Hope" footage transferred from original 16mm camera film footage. Sherpas discussing and organizing the yaks, a camp site, yaks with packs, close-up shots of Everest - Climb for Hope team members with monks, drinking tea, scenic shots, and yaks with packs being driven to forge a river. Convex lense used starting at 21:37-22:55 scenes of a man walking past huge chunks of ice and snow. Shots of people and yaks in a snow-bound camp-site, sherps feeding hay to the yaks, assembling the communal tent, a man bathing, Everest - Climb for Hope team members skiing while tied together in a long line, taking loads off of the yaks, taking blood pressure readings of sherpas, prayer flags, an avalanch, various activities going on around the campsite: men playing cards, shovelling snow, laundry drying, and men repairing a tent.

Item is original camera tape footage taken for the "Everest - Climb for hope" documentary. Includes advanced base camp footage of a cake created to resemble the North Col. and Everest - Climb for Hope team members gathered in the communal tent eating, interacting, and relaxing, Hilda serving the cake, everyone enjoying eating it, team members up before dawn (very dark, mostly flashlights moving and the audio) messing around in the communal tent [packing?], Pat Morrow heading out, Alan and Ross at advanced base camp talking to Tim on the radio about the progress they have been making toward setting up camp five from camp four, and Alan at advanced base camp talking to base camp, Ross, Peter and others looking through binoculars at camp five, keeping in radio contact and estimating the progress of team members who are attempting to bring further supplies to camp five, various camp scenes including prayer flags, Hilda drinking tea in the sun, some Sherpas relaxing, Sherpa tea, a short interview with Tiemo, a Canadian of Finish descent, team members walking through the snow carrying heavy packs (much of this section of footage is quiet poor), Dennis [or Peter?] stopping from exhaustion and illness, and Dennis and Peter talking to Tim and the team members who were with Tim after his knee injury higher up the mountain, team members talking to climbers from another expedition as they move through the Everest - Climb for Hope advanced base camp, and footage of the team making plans and a make-shift sled for rescuing Tim.

Includes raw footage taken at Expo 86; includes shots of Prince Charles and Lady Diana, Princess of Wales, with Brian Mulroney visiting Vancouver and the Expo site. Captures scenes of the Snowbirds performing for Expo crowds. An RCMP band and mounted RCMP. Silent film.

Film consists of raw footage taken at Expo86 and includes scenes of the Minolta Space Drop ride, food carts, crowds, the gondolas and the view from the gondola ride, people walking on the seawall, RCMP officers, the RCMP musical ride (outdoor venue, crowds seated on grass), the floating McDonalds (and the McDonalds Tidy Tug picking up floating garbage), a beer garden, music, pavilion signs, Expo 86 grounds and the outside of several national and provincial pavilions. Silent film.
