Album of photographs issued on the occasion of the "Welcome Day" in honour of President Ho Chi Minh's and the government's return to the capital

Item is an album, issued on the occasion of the Welcome Day in honour of President Ho Chi Minh's and the government's return to the capital, presented to Sherwood Lett "With the best compliments from the National Committee of the Lien-Viet National United Front". Photographs include portraits of Ho Chi Minh and other party dignitaries, Vietnamese cultural landmarks, photographs of the revolution and the defeat of the French at Dien Bien Phu, as well photographs of the benefits brought by the new government to the populace.

Background information

File contains articles, correspondence and reports relating to the economic, political and social conditions of Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia. File also covers the Canadian military, diplomatic and business establishments in Vietnam. A membership list of the Commission is included.

Charles Plant

File consists of records pertaining to Charles Plant, primarily related to his work as a shingle manufacturing executive at Bloedel, Stewart and Welch Ltd.; includes a news and magazine clipping, 1939 photograph print of industry professionals from Canada and the United States, and a reprint copy of the Feb. 1894 issue of the Puget Sound Lumberman which includes statistical information for British Columbia. File also includes a roster of the 1940 Kiwanis Club members.

File contains correspondence and reports gathered by Lett after he returned from Vietnam. File includes correspondence relating to the settlement of various of Lett's private matters. File also includes 6 interim reports of the International Commission for Supervision and Control in Vietnam.

Dieppe Raid

File contains message book, news clippings, official reports, narratives, and correspondence gathered by Lett relating to the planning and operation of the Dieppe Raid. File also includes records covering Lett's Distinguished Service Order award.

Final reports

File is the final report of the Canadian Mission to Japan. The report covers the economic conditions, business environment, human rights and demilitarization in Japan. File also covers the burial arrangements for the Canadian casualties in Hong Kong; and the political and economic situation in China.

Inquiry on the Second Narrow Bridge

File contains a Royal Commission certificate, report and a draft of the report relating to Lett's inquiry, as the appointed Royal Commissioner, on the collapse of a portion of the Second Narrow Bridge under construction across Burrard Inlet in 1958.

File contains various records relating to a wide range of Lett's military activities including Lett's injury report in 1942, tax return, and various rewards and honours gained by Lett. File also includes texts of speeches written by Lett relating to the operation of Dieppe Raid.

File contains news clipping from the English newspaper published in Hong Kong and Japan including the South China Morning Post, Hong Kong; Pacific stars and Stripes, Japan; and Nippon Times, Japan. News clippings relate to the Canadian Mission to Japan and Hong Kong in 1947.

Notebook

File consists of an Army correspondence notebook inscribed by "Capt. Sherwood Lett, 46th Battalion"; includes a diary entry and short essays on various topics.
