The fonds is made up of three series: Personal (1923-1986); Music (1933-1997); and Hotel Management (1973-1985). The Personal series contains materials related to Richards' personal life and that of his wife and daughter, including junior high school yearbooks and newspaper clippings. The Music series contains the bulk of the fonds and consists of newspaper clippings, promotional materials, correspondence, awards, photographs, and audio recordings related to Richards music career, covering his time with the Kitsilano Boys Band, the Panorama Roof, the B.C. Lions, and onward. The Hotel Management series contains materials related to Richards career in hotel management and includes certificates and newspaper clippings.

Music

This series contains newspaper clippings, promotional materials, correspondence, certificates, ribbons, and audio recordings related to Richards' music career. It covers his career with the Kitsilano Boys Band, the Panorama Roof, and the B.C. Lions, as well as the many charity benefits, conferences, and other events at which he performed.
The photographs include portraits by Gemini Photo (CVA 1205-24, 30, 31), a single print from Fred Skolovy (CVA 1205-8), contact sheets from Williams Bros. Photographers Ltd. (CVA 1205-6, 7), Polacolor Type 108 polaroids (CVA 1205-12, 14, 15), Polaroid Land Camera polaroids (CVA 1205-3, 4, 5), and two colour photograph negatives (CVA 1205-35, 36). There is also a folder in this series with some documents that originally accompanied the photographs.

Personal

This series contains materials related to Richards' personal life and the lives of his wife, Lorraine McAllister, and daughter, Dallas Richards. It includes Richards' junior high school yearbooks, newspaper clippings, and a scrapbook of McAllister and programs from her performances.
Photographs (CVA 1205-40, 44-48) are of McAllister. They include portraits taken by Franz Lindner, Herbert L. McDonald, Harry Edelman, and Dave Liddell.
