[Air Supremacy Drive scrapbook]

Scrapbook contains newspaper clippings of Vancouver's Air Supremacy Drive, held June 15th, to July 15th, 1940, during which local groups and individuals held events in an effort to raise $80,000 for the purchase of 10 training airplanes for use at Vancouver Municipal Airport to train pilots under the British Comonwealth Air Training program.

Cambie Street Boulevard Heritage Site

File consists of copies of photographs and news-clippings about the designation on March 25, 1993 as well the citizen efforts to save the boulevard. The Cambie Street Boulevard was designed in 1940 as an elongated park and ceremonial gateway to the City by planning consultant Harland Bartholomew. Preservation and recognition efforts were led by the Citizens for the Preservation of Cambie Street Boulevard. On March 25, 1993, the central boulevard was designated as a heritage landscape.

Postcards depict battle scenes, headquarters, and war materiel in Europe, many of which relate to activities of Canadian and possibly British Columbian regiments. The postcards were produced by the Vancouver firm Crosby & Bissell, 306 Tower Building, Vancouver.

[Construction records for 3439 West 11th Avenue]

Collected records relating to the construction of 3439 West 11th Avenue. In 1929, Susannah Jane Dods, a recently widowed mother of five children, undertook the construction of a family home at 3439 West 11th Avenue, carefully documenting all expenditures associated with the construction.

Records include original building permit, June 1, 1929; sewer hook-up application; invoices, statements, delivery notices, quotations, etc. including the following materials and service suppliers: West Point Hardware, F.N. Hamilton Plumbing, Rat Portage Lumber Co., Henry Darling and Son Ltd. (paint), Harris Paint and Wallpaper Company Limited, Wm. N. O'Neil Company Ltd., E. H. Shockley, Banks Electric, Inlaid Floor Co., Mackie & Co., B.C. Contractors Supply Co. Ltd. Also includes one photograph of the house, property tax statements for 1930-1933, 1941, 1946; home fuel bills from 1947; Federal Department of Trasport-issued Private Receiving Station licences, 1943-1945; as well as reminiscences of the Dods family and home prepared by Susannah Dods' daughter, Meryl M. Lynch.

Collection consists of research notes compiled by Davies into the history of the meat packing industry and abbattoirs in the Greater Vancouver area, and a photocopy of an article entitled, "Railway Recollections of a B.C. Sheep Rancher, by John (Jack) K. Moilliet, and published in Canadian Rail (May-June 2006).

Collection consists of 6 photographs of Dorothy Roe and her colleagues at St. Paul's Hospital and residence at 1101 Burrard Street (named and dated), a letter of recommendation for Ms. Roe on St. Paul's letterhead, a very brief memoir written by Ms. Roe on her work at St. Paul's, and an 'end of employment' slip.

Collection consists of recipes and food handling publications, 'from Bea Wright's Kitchen' and miscellaneous similar pamphlets by Mona Brun, produced by Woodward's Limited, and 'Edith Adams' produced by the Vancouver Sun newspaper. Also included is a Vancouver Sun news clipping on the history of the fictional character Edith Adams.

Ernest Cooper journal

Journal is a handwritten account of Ernest Cooper's journey from Liverpool, England, to Vancouver, May 24th to June 10th, 1888. Mr. Cooper crossed the Atlantic aboard the C.P.R. steamship S.S. Vancouver, and crossed the continent via Canadian Pacific Railway. The account documents Mr. Cooper's travels and includes detailed descriptions of conditions aboard ship; observations on differences between "steerage," "intermediate," and "saloon" passenger status; encounters with other passengers; activities of crew and passengers; sightings of wildlife; weather and sea conditions; a brief sight-seeing stop in Montreal; experiences with new currency, observations of "Indians" at rail stations across the prairies; impressions of Winnipeg; descriptions of views and vistas passing the Rockies and Selkirk mountains; comments on the Chinese presence along the Fraser River, and arrival in Vancouver.

G.A. Roedde Co. rub book

File consists of a large scrapbook used to document the design and execution of bookbindings by G.A. Roedde Ltd. For various clients across British Columbia. The book contains crayon rubbings made from finished bindings. Approximately 5% of the rubbings have samples of binding cloth and many have other specifications annotated.
