Administrative history

Early organization of the Friends of Chamber Music began in Vancouver in 1947 with support from the Community Arts Council, but it was in 1950 that the society was incorporated. The constitution provides for a board of twenty-four directors. Dr. Ida Halpern served as the first president, from 1948 to 1952.

Custodial history

Accrual in 2009 of 28cm of textual records collected by Anne Piternick (a Friends board member) accession # 2009-037 and 2009-076. Many programmes and other brochures included in the donation were collected by Anne from the membership to fill in gaps in the donation, rather than originating from the Friends themselves.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of minutes; financial statements; annual reports, including those of Presidents and Committee Chairmen; correspondence; membership lists; list of programmes, typescript, all concerts; accommodation, booking and seating; brochures; programmes; programmes, Young Musicians; scrapbook; and three copies of Friends of Chamber Music, A History of Twenty-Five Years, Vancouver 1973, by Rachel Giese.
