J.S. Matthews' notes with print in Archives states, "Hart's Opera House, first theatre in Vancouver. Carrall St, east side, south of Dupont, now Pender St. 'The Fan Drill', part of a performance given by the young ladies of Vancouver in aid of Alexandra Hospital, afterwards, Alexandra Orphanage, Seventh Avenue, Fairview. circa 1891. A dance and display with fans." Mathews notes continues with the identification of each woman.
