Biographical history
Edward Lloyd was born at Kenley, in Coulsdon, England. In 1897, he came to Canada and travelled in the North West Territories and in the Yukon. By 1902 he had returned to Vancouver, where he sailed aboard the Empress of India, working towards Captain's papers. Subsequently he started a family and lived in Vancouver, Port Moody, and Courtenay, British Columbia. Custodial history
The original documents were borrowed from a relative of Edward Lloyd by the Glenbow Archives, where they were microfilmed in 1984. A copy of the microfilm was subsequently purchased by the City of Vancouver Archives.
Scope and content
The fonds consists of correspondence sent to Lloyd's mother in England. Lloyd's various travels, business situations and domestic life are described in letters he and his wife sent home (1896-1921) and there is earlier correspondence from other family friends. There is also a typescript of Lloyd's travel journal for the Canadian North trip 1897- 1900, entitled "Wanderings in the Far North," transcribed by Lloyd's grandson, Griffin V. Lloyd
