Name of creator
The Downtown Business Association was established in 1946 as a reorganization of the Downtown Merchants Association. The general objectives of the Association are to protect, enhance, and promote the economic, commercial, and social well-being of the City of Vancouver and, in particular, the downtown area. Membership is made up of community and business leaders and property owners. The Association is a member of the International Downtown Executives Association which is composed of virtually all major downtown organizations in Canada and the United States. In 1979 it changed its name to the Downtown Vancouver Association.
Scope and content
The fonds consists of minutes (1940-1970), general files (1946-1968), and files including correspondence, finance, taxes, meetings, committees, membership, publications, liaison with Vancouver organizations, liaison with other organizations (outside of Vancouver), transportation, downtown development, parking, planning, projects, and newsletters (1969 1971).
The fonds is arranged into 3 series: General files, General files with index, and Minutes.
