The Chinese Canadian Historical Society of BC (CCHS) is a non-profit and broadly-based membership organization with educational goals. The society was registered under the Society Act of BC on May 18, 2004. The Society is dedicated to broadening the shared understanding of the history of the Chinese in British Columbia through research, documentation, preservation and education.
The Society was officially inaugurated at a workshop on Chinese Canadian family histories held November 5-6, 2004, at The Vancouver Public Library. Founding Board members include Edgar Wickberg (President), Larry Wong (Vice-President), Hayne Wai (Secretary), Colleen McGuinness (Treasurer), Jan Walls (Member-At-Large), Henry Yu (Member-At-Large), Jean Barman, Linda Joe, Howe Lee, Imogene Lim and David H.T. Wong.
The CCHS was already active in an informal way before its inauguration. It sponsored a workshop with a visiting group of Asian-Americanist during the summer of 2003. Various lectures, workshops, tours, research projects, history fairs, book launches have been organized by the Society since 2004. Some of the highlights include:
• Finished a joint CCHS-Vancouver City Hall commissioned report on five Chinatown heritage buildings in 2005
• Partnered with City of Vancouver Archives in 2005 to identify and collect materials on the Chinese history in Vancouver
• Published the book, Finding Memories, Tracing Routes: Chinese Canadian Family Stories, in 2006
• Joined the Change 2007 Committee in commemorating the significant anniversaries of the 1907 Anti-Asian Riot
• Co-sponsored a book launch event of Eating Stories: a Chinese Canadian and Aboriginal Potluck in 2008
• Co-sponsored Vancouver Regional Historica History Fair since 2005
• Conducted Chinese Genealogy writing workshop since 2005
Besides promoting Chinese history through different events, CCHS offers scholarship and awards to students, educators, writers and organizations who make an impact on public history pertaining to Chinese Canadian history and heritage.

Fonds consists of records relating to the operation of the Chinese Canadian Historical Society of BC. Record types include correspondence, agreements and legal documents, certificates, newspaper clippings, reports, agendas, newsletters, meeting minutes, and program files.
The fonds has been organized into the following series: Administrative files, Program files, and President files.
