The Canadian Contingent, consisting of the Canadian Yeomanry, Canadian Mounted Rifles and Strathcona Horse, was raised from Militia, civilian and police volunteers for service in the Imperial Forces during the South African War of 1899-1902. Recruitment in Vancouver was under the direction of Lt. Col. Charles Worsnop of the 6th Regiment D.C.O.R.

The fonds includes the militia orders setting quotas for Vancouver recruitment for the Canadian Yeomanry and Canadian Mounted Rifles; medical and other personal records of recruits; official and unofficial correspondence of Lt. Co. Worsnop regarding the Canadian Contingent; requisitions for clothing and equipment for the Canadian Yeomanry; and copies of a bill exempting enlistees from the provisions of the Mineral and Placer Mining Acts.
