History

Bow, McLachlan and Company was a Scottish marine engineering and shipbuilding company based in Abbotsinch and Paisley, Renfrewshire.

The company was founded by engineers William Bow and John McLachlan in 1888. In 1900 they acquired the shipyard of J. McArthur & Co. The firm specialised in designing and building "knock down" vessels, which were assembled at their yards, then partly disassembled for shipping to their clients for re-assembly. This method of construction was necessary for the construction of inland shipping or lakes steamers on waters with inadequate or no access from the ocean.
