Biographical history

A.R.C. Holmes lived and worked in Vancouver. He showed an interest in drawing and cartooning during his school years. He worked as a clerk for the Vancouver Sun (ca.1924-1963), and drew cartoons, some of which were published. He is listed as a cartoonist in the City Directory for 1965.

The fonds consists of the papers of A. R. C. Holmes, including correspondence, school records, sketchbooks, drawings and cartoons, publications, greeting cards, and photographs of various regions in B.C. Also included are original cartoons by Al Beaton, Ernest Le Messurier, and Thursby.

Received from the Vancouver Museum in 1983. The Museum received it from the Estate of A.R.C. Holmes.
