Vancouver Cricket Club

The Vancouver Cricket Club was founded in 1899 with a membership of 70 men. The Club’s first meeting was held in the Wilson Hall on February 27, 1899 and the first group of board executives were elected, the first board included:

David Oppenheimer (Mayor of Vancouver) – President
John Boultbee – 1st Vice-President
Campbell Sweeney – 2nd Vice-President
J.C. Keith – 2nd Vice-President
R.M. Fripp – Honourary Secretary
T.C.R. Garrioch – Honourary Treasurer

A Committee consisting of C. Gardener Johnson, H. Ellwood, A. St. G. Hammersley, H.J. Campbell and W. E. Green was elected as well.

The Vancouver Cricket Club took an active role in promoting the sport of cricket in Vancouver by running the Club’s team and arranging matches. One of its major contributions was a joint effort with the Brockton Point Athletic Club to build the Brockton Point Sports Ground and Pavilion as a long term facility for cricket.
