Biographical history
John Macfarlane McLuckie was born in Scotland and came to Vancouver around 1886, where he formed a contracting company (McGhie and McLuckie, 1886?-1890) with J.B. McGhie.
McLuckie worked primarily as a contractor, but occasionally designed commercial buildings, particularly additions and renovations to existing structures. In 1926, he was listed as the builder and proprietor of the Hotel Abbotsford. McLuckie ran his contracting company until his death in 1927.

Volume is a notebook owned by John M. McLuckie in which is recorded a variety of information, predominantly about properties that he owned. Folded inside the notebook are various notes, newspaper clippings, business cards and a ribbon that reads "Survivor
