The 11th Machine Gun Battalion was organized at Victoria in 1920 from the membership of the Canadian Machine Gun Corps, C.E.F. In 1922, brigade headquarters were transferred to Vancouver. The Battalion was disbanded as a result of the militia reorganization in 1936.

The fonds consists of the bound records, correspondence, orders, photographs and historical documents of the 11th Machine Gun Battalion, as well as maps, papers and correspondence pertaining to the Canadian Machine Gun Corps, C.E.F., and a typescript history of the 11th Machine Gun Battalion written by Lt. Col. Francis Layton in 1954.
