The United Nations Conference on Human Settlements (known as "Habitat") was held in Vancouver, B.C. in 1976. Attracting 2,000 delegates from 140 countries, the conference was an outgrowth of the UN Conference of Human Environment, which was held in Stockholm in 1972. Running concurrently with the official UN conference was Habitat Forum, a gathering of non-governmental oranizations offering exhibits and workshops to the public.
