Biographical history

The Vancouver Council #284 of the Order of the United Commercial Travellers of America (U.C.T.) was formed in September of 1904 and chartered in 1905. The organization had been originally incorporated in 1888 in Columbus, Ohio. The aims of the order were to improve the conditions for travelling salesmen, and to provide aid to members and their families. The organization also became involved in charitable works.

Scope and content

Collection consists of items pertaining to the United Commercial Travellers and the Vancouver Council of Travellers. Included are a history of the Vancouver Council delivered at the Council's 75th anniversary, copies of "The Sample Case", the U.C.T. magazine, a membership list and obituary and memorial service notices for members. Also includes a copy of the historical review with a special reference to Past Supreme Counseler Edward Blake McMaster of Vancouver Council #284. Photographs are: AM 711 #1, E. B. McMaster, Grand Councillor of the Vancouver Council of Travellers [1915?]; AM 711 #2, United Commercial Travellers, Concert Party and Glee Club, [all individuals identified], 23 Mar. 1924.
