In 1919 The Canadian Pacific Railway Company secured a charter from Parliament to own and operate aircraft inside and outside of Canada. Western Canada Airways Limited was formed in 1926. In 1930 Canadian Airways Limited was created when it took over the assets of the Aviation Corporation of Canada and Western Canada Airways Airlines Limited. In 1942 Canadian Pacific Air Lines (later Canadian Pacific Airlines Ltd., then CP Air) was formed by the amalgamation of Canadian Airways Limited and nine other airline systems. In 1987 the company merged with Pacific Western Airlines to become Canadian Airlines International, a subsidiary of PWA Corporation.

Scope and content
The fonds consists of two scrapbooks containing legal agreements, financial statements and corporate data concerning the pre amalgamation firms; typescripts, reports, and speeches on the history and operation of the firm 1944-1968; organizational charts; and correspondence for 1945. Printed items include company newsletters 1942-1944; advertising brochures; clippings; magazine articles, and photographs.
