Biographical history
The Greater Vancouver Sewerage and Drainage District was incorporated in 1956 under provincial statute. At the same time, its predecessor, the Vancouver and Districts Joint Sewerage and Drainage Board, which had been incorporated in 1914, went out of existence by repeal of its Act. Some saving provisions of the repealed Act were carried over into the new Act, provisions dealing mainly with the carrying over of the rights and liabilities of the past Board into the new District. The responsibilities of the District and its predecessor were the construction, maintenance, operation and administration of the major sewerage and drainage facilities. In 1971, the Greater Vancouver Sewerage and Drainage District Board amalgamated with the Greater Vancouver Regional District.
