The collection consists of an original parchment of the commission given by Admiral Sir George Brydges Rodney appointing George Vancouver fourth lieutenant of H.M.S. "Fame".

Immediate source of acquisition

The original parchment was acquired in London by George Pritchard, who presented it to his nephew, T.S. Annandale, after 1919. His son, K.F. Annandale, in turn presented it to the City of Vancouver in 1956.
